BWCA announces three special emergency workcamps on relief and rehabilitation to the victims of recent SIDR heated area which crossed through south to north middle of Bangladesh landscape. The devastated cyclone damaged thousands of houses, millions of cattle, thousands tons of crops and near about 3000 people died may be more. It has also damaged thousands of infrastructures like schools, college, mosque, temples and churches in the cyclone heated area. The victims of the cyclone heated area still starving with out food, fresh water, cloths and medicine. People lost their shelters and staying under the open sky.
Therefore, BWCA appeal to all interested kind hearted volunteers who wants to help the victims through our Special Emergency Workcamps. We would like to request you to mobilize resources in kind or cash for helping the victims from your personal and organizational capacity.
We welcome any sort of cooperation from the volunteers, through resources like cloths, dry food and portable TENTS for temporary shelters which is very necessary to protect them from cold and open atmosphere. Simultaneously, BWCA volunteers is going to reconstruct cyclone victim’s ruined or damaged houses through voluntary efforts with available house materials.
Right now
Bangladesh Government and Military forces are taking care of emergency feeding
program and supplying pure water/medicine.
Second phase of the work action will be reconstruction of infrastructures where
traditional workcamp methods necessary to contribute a significant role in this
moment.
The camp date and duration have been fixed up through January and March, 2008.
Regarding volunteer requirement, we preferred male volunteers bigger percentage in terms of camp place will be very far and from Dhaka city and considering the accommodation, sanitation and social atmosphere/condition at the moment in the cyclone heated devastating areas.
Location : Bagerhat and Barguna district are far from Dhaka City 180 km and 260 km respectively in southern part of Bangladesh. Main transports are Engine boat, ferry/steamer and also by bus service.
Accommodation : We need to stay
at any convenient place (local School/community hall) of Pathorghata, Borguna
and Shoronkhola, Bagerhat (South-east part of Bangladesh most affected area).
Work: The work will be reconstruction of cyclone damaged houses with
local resources which belongs to the house hold, repairing road and local
Schools, helping the local farmer to their agricultural work.
Food: Volunteers would prepare their food by their selves at the camp place. Local volunteers will help to prepare food with all type of logistics.
Arrival Meeting point : Regarding volunteers arrival we will receive all
group and individual volunteers at Zia International Airport on arrival
according to their prior flight information from the volunteers. Volunteers need
to arrive at the meeting point on first day of the camp.
Cost : The participation fee would be equivalent of US$ 250 (two hundred fifty US Dollars) only per volunteer/per camp on arrival. A part from the fees we welcome any sort of contribution toward welfare of the victims.
How to get Camp site: Volunteers will be taken to the camp site by the arrangement of BWCA transport after arrival at Zia International Airport. Therefore, volunteers need to arrive at the meeting point on first day of the camp.
What should bring : Volunteers are very much requested to bring their SLEEPING BAG and light mattress (Foam or plastic made) because of putting on the floor.
